Let's Talk Baby Proofing

Baby Proofing: The one thing parents don’t usually think about, or think they won’t have to do because they won’t let their baby out of their sight!

…Well, I am here to tell you, that probably isn’t true. Things happen and we as parents are not perfect! You might need to run to the bathroom, empty the dishwasher, or anything like that! Also, at night your babe might try to climb out of the crib! I know I did that as a child.

I told myself I would not need to baby proof, I did not add any baby proofing items to my registry. But now, as Norah has started to get more mobile, I started to worry! She already pulls things off shelves and everything like that, so I figured I should get myself baby proofed before she starts to really be on the move.

So, I am going to make a little list of things that I have baby proofed and I will link the products I have used to do so!

Just to note: I am sure there is more to be baby proofed, as I figure out more things that I think will be beneficial I will add them right to this post!

Toilet Seat Covers

I think this one gets forgotten pretty often. Toilets can be a drowning hazard. We put one on every single toilet we have, and we also added child locks to the bathroom doors as well!

Door Handle Locks

These can be put into any room you don’t want baby in! We even added one to our front door in case she gets the urge to run on out of here.

Blind Cords

We have tons of these in our house because we have those classic pull blinds. Drapes are also a danger, but I have not baby proofed those yet! I have intentions to, I am just not sure what kind of product I want to use yet!

Cabinets

For our cabinets, we only did the ones with chemicals in them! We figured we could do all of the cabinets, but the ones with things like Tupperware would just be more inconvenient if she went through them rather than dangerous.

Anchoring Furniture

We are anchoring furniture in the rooms that she will be in alone, which is pretty much her bedroom that she will be alone. Generally I would say to baby proof the living room furniture and the television, but we just don’t plan to be living here much longer!

Outlet Covers

This one is so easy! Just cover those bad boys!

So far that is what we have, and I will continue to add to this list as we go on! I should also note we do not have stairs currently, if we did, we would 100% have a baby gate.

Baby proofing should be something we all do, I like to think of it as I would rather be safe than sorry. It is like using a car seat. You would never go anywhere without one, because it is dangerous! So, why not make your home as safe as possible so you can actually relax!
