My Morning Routine as a Working Mom

This routine took me quite a bit of time to figure out and to get used too once going back to work after maternity leave. When I first went back I was just so tired all I could think about was waking up drinking copious amounts of coffee, going to work, coming home to my baby, showering and sleeping. But of course I quickly knew for my mental health we needed breakfast there and a workout. So here is the morning routine I came up with! It is easy and quick and I try to get it all done in about 2.5 hours.

  • Wake up & wash my face

  • Make a fresh cup of coffee, I know they say you shouldn’t drink coffee on an empty stomach, but I am not perfect, okay! I need that coffee as soon as I wake up!

  • Workout! I need to get my workout done in the morning, if I don’t, there is a pretty high chance that it will not get done.

  • After my workout is usually around the time Norah starts to wake up, so I will get her and cuddle her for a quick few minutes before she wants to eat. While she is eating that is when I usually am on my phone. I can catch up on whatever I want, whether it be news or social media.

  • After this we start to get ready for work. I put Norah on her play mat or into her activity gym and leave her in the bathroom with me while I get ready. I don’t normally get her dressed for the day since my mom loves to do that, so I let her do it when she comes over.

  • After we are ready we make a smoothie and hangout with Norah waiting for my parents to come over to watch her for the day.

I usually leave for work around 8:30, so I generally get up between 5:00-5:30. Which was a total drag at first, but has really become quite nice to have some quiet time in the morning to just get things together. Of course there are days that I don’t want to get up and those days, I don’t! We’re all humans and need a break sometimes too. But, so far this is what has been working for me!
